REveaL – Art To Exchange (RELATE) takes a stand ‘against discrimination and combating racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance’ by engaging the arts as a means of creating space to build understanding and connections between people of migrant backgrounds (i.e., refugees, asylum seekers, and economic migrants), civil society, creative/ cultural sector, and the general population. This has been identified as an essential action across the EU, although specifically in Cyprus, due to existing socio-cultural division that is consistently exacerbated through pervasive systemic racism and conflict supporting social narratives. The inclusion of French cultural organizations and artists brings in transnational expertise for the development of new structures and valuable networking opportunities.

RELATE was conceived within the framework of the EU’s priority to combat discrimination, racism, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance, including anti-Black racism and anti-Muslim hatred.

PAST EVENTS

Artist exchange with l’atelier des artistes en exil (aa-e), France

In April 2025, Visual Voices and Generation for Change CY hosted a cultural exchange with L’atelier des artistes en exil (aa-e) from France. Visiting artists Nafiseh Malekijoo and Cleve Nitoumbi shared their powerful work through an exhibition, live performance, and masterclass, exploring themes of migration, identity, and resistance. The programme promoted peer-to-peer learning, community dialogue, and cross-border collaboration between artists in exile and the creative community in Cyprus.

May 21, 2025, Cultural Diversity Day

The Diversity Day Art Festival 2025, held on 24 May at Faneromenis Square, brought together people from across communities for an evening of creativity, cultural exchange, and connection. Organised by Generation for Change CY and Visual Voices with the support of L’atelier des artistes en exil, the festival offered interactive workshops, live performances, and global flavours that celebrated the rich diversity of life in Cyprus. From drumming, dance, and henna art to Afrobeat and traditional music, the programme invited people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, share, and celebrate together in an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere.
